Mulching is a quick and effective way to keep your garden healthy with minimal effort.


1. Pick Your Mulch

  • Organic Options: Wood chips, straw, grass clippings, or leaves. These enrich the soil as they break down.

  • Inorganic Options: Gravel or rubber mulch. These provide long-lasting weed control but don’t add nutrients.

2. Prepare the Area

  • Clear away weeds and lightly water the soil.

3. Apply the Mulch

  • Spread a layer of mulch 2 to 4 inches deep around your plants, keeping it away from stems and trunks.

4. Refresh as Needed

  • Check your mulch yearly and add more as it decomposes or looks thin.

5. Don’t Overdo It

  • Avoid piling on too much mulch, which can block water and air from reaching the soil.
