DIY Holiday Decorations Your Kids Can Help With

Making holiday decorations with your kids is more than just a fun activity—it’s an opportunity to create lasting memories and traditions.

1. Paper Snowflakes

  • Fold a square piece of white paper diagonally into a triangle, then fold it again to make a smaller triangle.

  • Help your child cut small shapes along the folded edges.

  • Unfold the paper to reveal a snowflake and hang it with string or tape.

2. Salt Dough Ornaments

  • Mix 1 cup of flour, 1/2 cup of salt, and 1/2 cup of water to create dough, then roll it out.

  • Use cookie cutters to make holiday shapes, then bake at 200°F for 2-3 hours.

  • Once cooled, let your kids paint the ornaments and add ribbon for hanging.

3. Pine Cone Christmas Trees

  • Collect pine cones and paint them green, letting them dry completely.

  • Glue small pom-poms or beads onto the pine cones as ornaments.

  • Add a star sticker or cutout on top and display them around your home.

4. Handprint Wreath

  • Trace and cut out your child’s handprints from green construction paper.

  • Glue the handprints around a paper plate with the center cut out to form a wreath.

  • Decorate with red paper berries and add a ribbon for hanging.

5. Holiday Garland

  • Cut colored construction paper into strips.

  • Link the strips together to form a chain, securing each with tape or glue.

  • Hang the garland around doorways, on the tree, or across the mantle.
