Starting Plants from Cuttings
Propagating plants from cuttings is an easy and affordable way to multiply your garden favorites.
1. Pick a Healthy Plant
Choose a strong, healthy plant for your cutting.
Great choices include herbs like basil or houseplants like pothos.
2. Take a Cutting
Cut a 4-6 inch piece of stem just below a leaf node.
Remove lower leaves, keeping a few at the top.
3. Plant the Cutting
Stick the cutting into moist, well-draining soil.
Use rooting hormone if desired to speed up root growth.
4. Cover and Place in Indirect Light
Cover the pot with a plastic bag to keep it humid.
Place the pot in bright, indirect light.
5. Water and Wait
Keep the soil moist.
In a few weeks, check for roots and transplant once they develop.
